Action at the Frontline Case StudiesIn early 2011 the network embarked on an excercise called 'Action at the Frontline' to support the survey gathering programme of Views from the Frontline with evidence of real-life, practical DRR projects from Network Members around the world. In total we gathered around 60 case studies and created these videos case studies which have been catalogued in to a number of DRR themes. The links on the left of the screen are to each of the themes.
These stories bring to life the work of the Global Network’s members. They show where aspects of local governance and partnerships are working well to achieve progress, where progress is prevented and also highlights the importance of local level participants. Downloads:

Climate Change Adaptation & Environment / Cambio Climático &Medio Ambiente
The impact of climate change is increasing. It affects some regions dramatically, but all regions are having to cope with the increased frequency of extreme weather events, as well as adapting to long-term changes in weather patterns leading to increasing drought, for example. These case studies show both the challenges and some effective responses. View Case Studies...
Community-led DRR / RRD impulsado por la Comunidad
Those at the frontline are often prepared to devote considerable energy and expertise to DRR and where they do so the results are often dramatic. Examples of community led DRR highlight the importance of this strategy. View Case Studies... Financing of DRR / Financiamiento de la RRD
Resources for effective DRR, are often scarce. Innovative strategies have been employed in some of these case studies to secure financial support. Other case studies show the challenges where resources are not available. View Case Studies... Indigenous Knowledge / Conocimientos Locales/Indígenas
Local knowledge is often not taken into account in developing DRR strategies. Where this is not done the plans that are adopted are often not most appropriate or cost effective. Where local knowledge is brought into the process the outcomes are often more successful, as these case studies show. View Case Studies...
Multi-stakeholder Partnerships / Alianzas entre varios actores
It is clear that effective approaches to DRR need to take account of a range of expertise, capacities and resources. Where different stakeholders start to work together the results are far more effective than where collaboration is limited, as these case studies show. View Case Studies... Risk Assessment and Management / Evaluación y Manejo de Riesgo
Understanding the risks is the first step to developing effective local DRR strategies. The knowledge and insights of different stakeholders are needed for this. Developing this understanding not only informs planning and action, but builds understanding, as these case studies show. View Case Studies... Social Impact and Vulnerability / Impacto y Vulnerabilidad Social
Particular groups within societies are often particularly vulnerable, often as a result of poverty restricting their options. As a result of these such groups are impacted particularly heavily by both intensive disasters, and smaller scale extensive disasters. Such groups need to be prioritised. If not, they are likely to be heavily impacted by disasters, as these case studies show. View Case Studies... |
